I think I have finally decompressed from the Super Bowl.
Here are some quick preliminary facts…
- As of Thursday, Feb 3, there were in excess of 1,000 parking reservations for the airports in the Indianapolis area.
- IND Tower/TRACON’s acceptance rate during the arrival phase exceeded expectations.
- At game time Sunday, there were more aircraft on the ground in the Indy area than were on the ground in the Dallas area at game time last year. (especially impressive, considering we are the only air traffic control tower within a 50 mile radius of Indianapolis… not counting contract/mobile temporary towers)
- In the first 4 hours after the end of the game, in excess of 450 aircraft departed the area.
- No aircraft were delayed on the ground as a result of Miles-In-Trail restrictions put in place on the East Coast.
- IND’s delivery rate exceeded expectations during the departure phase.
- IND Tower/TRACON returned to normal operations by 1:00pm on Monday.
In all, it was really not so bad. but I think the phenomenal warm, clear, calm wind weather really helped us out, too.
